Make-up work
I walked in the door a few weeks ago and Elsie told me she had made herself pretty.
It turns out Andrea had told her she could play with one or two certain kinds of make-up, which Elsie apparently took to mean "Do whatever you want with whatever you want."
She has gotten into my makeup before, but never to this degree of devastation. I had given her some old makeup brushes and some el cheapo almost gone stuff to play with specifically so mine wouldn't get messed with--a multi-color palette that doesn't color very well, and a pressed powder in a shade too dark for me. She had been expressly told that 1) She needs to ask before she uses makeup--even hers--that way I will know and can monitor the situation; and 2) She was ONLY supposed to use her own.
The kind of sad part is that she was really and truly SO PROUD of herself--just beaming and so thrilled.
She told me she had made a makeup shop, and she did herself and a couple of her bath ducks.
I was pretty shocked at how MUCH makeup she had used (and mixed and messed up), and she was just so darn happy that I couldn't be too mad, just sad.
•Jacob, running into the room with a bag full of cars: "Mama, I may be as as strong as a buffaloooooo!
• Jacob, bringing a book to me (Andrea): Can you read this to me, Bright Eyes?
• Jacob, "reading" the fortune from his cookie: "I will have a "R" when I grow up." That's what it says. ("R" is Jacob's very favorite letter.)
• Elsie, while eating her cereal: I have to eat the rest of my bran mash. (For whatever reason, soggy cereal is called "bran mash" at our house.) Josh: You have to eat your bran mash so you can be strong to run, and prance, and pull carts... E: Only draft horses do that.
• Elsie: Overly tired makes your brain go silly.
• Andrea: Jacob, shall we change your pants?
Jacob: It's a middle-size poop. It's not dangerous.
• Elsie and Jacob, while patting my pregnant belly and laughing: Mama has a fat tummy! Your tummy is so fat!
Elsie: Hey, I think the baby heard us!
• Elsie: My bottom is closed, sorry. No spanking time for you today!
• Elsie: Wait a minute! There's a little guy under there! (As Elsie is peeking at Jacob underneath a blanket)
• Josh: Elsie, I don't like you climbing up there. I'm afraid you could fall. (As Elsie is climbing into the bathroom sink to play) Elsie: It's okay, Papa. You can be brave.
::impending voice of doom:: And so it begins! ;)
